Bistrik - Obala Isa-bega Ishakovića The Bakr-Baba original mosque at the site was built as the vakuf of the renowned Sarajevo merchant Hajji Ali Bakr-baba back in 1544, which is why the mosque was named Bakr-babin. Destroyed in 1697 by Eugen of Savoy, it was reconstructed and immediately after the Austro-Hungarian occupation, the Bakr-baba mosque was turned into a military depot, and in 1895 it was demolished together with the mekteb building. The site was flattened and turned into a part of the park At Mejdan. It was not until the mid-2000s, at the initiative of the renowned Islamic scholar Hajj Hafiz Khalid ef. Hadzimulic started digging up the archeological remains of the mosque and supporting objects. A smaller and modern mosque was erected on the excavated foundations of Bakr Baba's mosque, which was inaugurated on June 27, 2011, according to the project of the architect Mufid Garibija. |
