Summary[edit]
DescriptionSchoolhouse Los Altos Hills.jpg |
As far as we know, this is the oldest surviving building we have in town. At one point it was "the" schoolhouse, serving 6 pupils. Later on, meetings were held in the schoolhouse to discuss the formation and incorporation of a new town by the local residents - eventually to be known as Los Altos Hills - now an up-scale residential area of Silicon Valley. The town was incorporated in January 1956 by a vote of the people living within the boundaries of the proposed town. The vote was 424 to 339. The windows have been boarded up, and the upper part of the chimney removed (for earthquake safety) but otherwise it looks pretty much as it used to - nestled under the branches of a huge old Oak Tree on the banks of a small creek. |
