Summary[edit]
English: The villa was designed by Theodor Hartmann and built from 1889 to 1890 as a two-story residential building for Otto Schott, one of the most important scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs of his time. The villa is located on the estate of the “Glastechnisches Laboratorium Schott & Genossen”, which was co-founded by Otto Schott, Ernst Abbe, Carl, and his son Roderich Zeiß in Jena in 1884, and which later became the “Jenaer Glaswerke Schott & Genossen” and then the SCHOTT AG. Today, it houses the SCHOTT Glass Museum, a barrier-free museum that illustrates the company’s history of product and technology development, as well as special exhibitions that, for instance, present glass as an artistic material. |
