| Description |
English: An ensemble of the orchestra of Schule am Meer (= School by the Sea) on the East Frisian island Juist in Prussia. The picture was made in a wood pannelled hall of the boarding school, located in the eastern annexe of the school's main building Diesseits (= The Here and Now). This room was regularly used as refectory, but its tables and chairs had to be removed and rearranged several times a day due to the rooms parallel use as rehearsal room, theater hall and concert hall until pentecost 1931 when the boarding schools own freestanding theater and concert hall was inaugurated. In the picture's center sitting cross-legged on the floor choirmaster and conductor Eduard Zuckmayer, behind him supply teacher Anna Sara Reiner, towered by principal Martin Luserke. At the very back on the left side-faced pupil Walter Georg Kühne, later archaeologist in UK and after WWII in Germany. In front at the very right pupil Gerhard Bry, after emigration economist in the US.
Deutsch: Ein Orchesterensemble der Schule am Meer auf der ostfriesischen Insel Juist im flacheren östlichen Anbau des Schulhauptgebäudes Diesseits des Landerziehungsheims. Bei dem holzgetäfelten Raum handelt es sich um den Speisesaal des Internats, der auch für Proben und Aufführungen des Schulchors und -orchesters sowie für das Theaterspiel (Darstellendes Spiel) genutzt werden musste. Dies erforderte mehrmals täglich ein Umräumen der Bestuhlung und der Tische, bevor Pfingsten 1931 die freistehende Theaterhalle des Internats eingeweiht wurde. In der Bildmitte am Boden im Schneidersitz Chor- und Orchesterleiter Eduard Zuckmayer, hinter ihm auf einem Stuhl sitzend Hilfslehrkraft Anna Sara Reiner am Violoncello, überragt vom stehenden Schulleiter Martin Luserke. Ganz hinten links im Profil Schüler Walter Georg Kühne mit Violine, vorn ganz rechts sitzend Schüler Gerhard Bry an der Mandoline. |
