Summary
[edit]DescriptionScoriaceous basalt (Ice Springs Basalt, Holocene, 4 ka to 660 a; southeastern Ice Springs Volcanic Field, eastern Millard County, western Utah, USA) 1 (15068428317).jpg |
Scoriaceous basalt (~9.5 cm across near the bottom) from the Holocene of Utah, USA. This is a basaltic lava flow surface showing nice pahoehoe ropes at left. The broken cross-section of this rock shows it to be highly vesiculated, so it's not solid basalt. This is from the Ice Spring Basalt, a lava flow of Holocene age (dated from about 4000 years old to about 660 years old). Locality: southeastern Ice Springs Volcanic Field, due north of White Mountain gypsum field, ~west of the town of Fillmore, northwest of the town of Meadow, eastern Millard County, western Utah, USA (~38° 56' 28.94" North, ~112° 29' 53.09" West). |
