Summary[edit]

Description A Pathfinder Tours weekend excursion to Scotland, 'The Autumn Chieftain', is seen here at Lairg waiting to depart on the next leg of the journey to Dunrobin Castle. The train was operated by Direct Rail Services, who supplied two of their Class 37 diesel locomotives (37218+37425) to haul the train throughout from Paignton to Kyle of Lochalsh, Wick and Thurso. 37425 carries the name 'Sir William McAlpine' on the near side, whilst on the other side it carries 'Concrete Bob', the nickname given to the man who was the first in the modern world to use mass concrete for construction, on the nearby Fort William to Mallaig line.
