Summary[edit]
DescriptionScottish Heritage Railway (40461337572).jpg |
This heritage railway follows part of the original line that ran from the Scottish Highland town of Aviemore to Forres and beyond and which was subjected to closure in the 1960's. The "Strathspey Railway" resurrected part of the line and has been operating now for 40 years. They run services 10 miles each way on most days of the year (more in Summer, less in Winter) using a mixture of Steam and diesel locomotives. The line runs through the beautiful scenery of the River Spey valley. Here we see loco 46512, a 2-6-0, which was originally operated by British Railways from 31/12/1952 until 31/12/1966, now fully restored at Aviemore and in regular use with period rolling stock. |
