Summary

[edit]
Description Standing on an island in the middle of a frozen-over Mirror Lake on an unseasonably cold October 2006 day at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York, this 30-inch bronze figure depicting a young child in turn-of-the-century clothing gazing solemnly downward is a recast of a 1911 sculpture entitled Little Girl by local artist Grace Rumsey Goodyear, who created the original after the untimely death of her own daughter Jane. The recast was donated to the cemetery in 1991 by her son Lawrence, together with a plaque on the shoreline that reads: "The little girl on the island stands in memory of all children".
