Summary

[edit]
Description Looking through the seating area of the Phochani Pavilion towards the sprawling grounds of the PP Royal palace. The stage we saw in the previous picture is the our left now., and the Throne Room straight ahead on the left. The structure to the far right is simply one of the grand entrance gates. The Kings of Cambodia have occupied the Royal Palace ever since it was built in 1860s, except for a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge lunatics. The palace was constructed after King Norodom relocated the Royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh in the mid-19th century. It was gradually built atop an old citadel called Banteay Kev. The Royal Palace faces East and is situated on the Western bank of the cross division of the Tonle Sap River and the Mekong River called Chaktomuk. (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Apr/ May 2014)
