Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeattle - Mutual Life Building from Yesler Building 01A.jpg |
The Mutual Life Building seen from just outside the Yesler Building; the stone structure at left is part of the doorway of the latter. The Mutual Life Building, 605 First Avenue in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, Seattle, Washington, USA. Built in 1891–92, the Mutual Life Building was originally called the Yesler Building (a name that now applies to the former Scandinavian American Bank Building - also Bank of Commerce Building - to its south across Yesler Way, the building part of which is seen in the foreground). It became the Mutual Life Building when that company moved in, in 1895. An extension was added at the rear circa 1904. See Summary for 605 1st AVE / Parcel ID 8591400075, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for further information about the Mutual Life Building and Summary for 95 Yesler WAY / Parcel ID 5247800055, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for further information about the Yesler Building. However, the latter article is almost certainly mistaken in saying that the top floor was added circa 1895. It is missing in this photo published in 1900 in a book whose images all appear to have been recent at the time. |
