Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeattle - Second Avenue - 1907.jpg |
English: "Second Avenue". Seattle, Washington, 1907. The view would be looking north (well, really NNW) on 2nd Avenue. The building in extreme perspective at near left is the Seattle Hotel (a.k.a. Hotel Seattle), demolished in the 1960s. The next building on the left is the Butler Hotel (its sign can be seen), the lower two stories of which survive. The first building on the right is gone, replaced in 1929 by the Hartford Building. The Corona Building and the Alaska Building (second and third from right) are still standing. To the left of the Alaska Building are the now-demolished New York Block & Boston Block.

Artwork of Seattle and Alaska, 1907, W. D. Harney Photogravure Publisher, Racine, Wisconsin. Copied by taking a photograph of a page in a copy of the book at Seattle Public Library (Seattle Room of the Central Library); image cleaned up using GIMP, mainly using the perspective transform feature. This was a bit tough, because the pages did not lie flat, and of course one cannot press on things in a rare book, so I had a log of curl to deal with. |
