Description

425 Eastlake Ave. Item 179599, Historic Building Survey Photograph Collection (Record Series 1629-01), Seattle Municipal Archives. Seattle Municipal Archives changed its URL scheme circa 2022; the older URLs beginning with "clerk" are deprecated, and will eventually fail. The following search should find item number 179599 in their new database: http://archives.seattle.gov/digital-collections/index.php/Search/objects/search/num%253A179599+AND+ca_objects.type_id%253A23 .

English: Victorian row house, 425 Eastlake Ave. E., Seattle, Washington, U.S., 1970s. The house is still there as of 2018. More about this building at https://web6.seattle.gov/DPD/HistoricalSite/QueryResult.aspx?ID=489266746.
The given construction date (1910) is highly doubtful, as it bears all the features of a 19th century flat. This lot is empty on the 1912 Baist Atlas, and the address first appears in newspapers in March 1913, where developer Claude C. Ramsay advertises it as a "new house" for lease. Ramsay, a former state legislator, owned multiple properties near downtown so it is likely he moved this building onto this lot in 1912-13 to make way for a larger building. If the building's original location can ever be found, that may lead to its original date of construction.
