Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeveral deer apparently roam freely on Miyajimacho Island (49495006888).jpg | Several deer apparently roam freely on Miyajimacho Island and this is a sign just outside the ferry terminal which gives out some behavioural guidelines and other useful information. Sure enough, I found of of the deer loitering about just beyond the sign. Well, we will talk about the deer a little later (see subsequent images). But just a brief word here- despite the notice here warning visitors not to feed the animals, I've seen some articles on the net about the relative lack of greenery and natural foods (herbs and grass) for the deer. Visitors buy 'deer cookies' from a kiosk a little distance away from here and the deer keep picking on the trash left behind by visitors. So the lack of nutritious and more importantly natural foods mean that many of the deer are falling sick and even dying, and have come to depend on humans for food. I am here for barely an hour and a half and so am unable to comment on that, but yes, I did observe that the deer are mostly snacking on artificial foods and there is a general lack of grass around, barring the odd patch or two here and there. Back to the sign, it is fairly self explanatory if viewed in full screen or expanded mode so I will let you read up the information for yourself. (Hiroshima,Japan, Apr/ May 2019) |
