ورود پساب‌های شور به تالاب بین‌المللی شادگان و قطع شدن حقابه این تالاب از رودخانه‌های جراحی و کارون، عامل تبدیل اراضی این تالاب به نمک زار است. این تالاب در فهرست قرمز تالاب‌های بین المللی قرار دارد.
