La fin du XVIIIè siècle marque l'arrivée des marchands écossais à Terrebonne. Ayant d'abord fait fortune dans le commerce de la traite des fourrures, ils recherchent maintenant paix et tranquillité. Parmi les nombreux marchands écossais qui s'établissent à Terrebonne se trouve Simon McTavish, qui est réputé comme étant le "MARQUIS" de la fourrure et qui devient seigneur de Terrebonne en 1802. Simon McTavish fait construire sur l'île un important moulin à scie. Le site portait le nom de "islet du moulin" sous le régime français. Simon McTavish ne jouira pas trop longtemps de ses pouvoir de seigneur de Terrebonne puisqu'il y meurt en 1804. Il s'était fait construire une maison-entrepôt dans le secteur de l'ancien Montréal sur rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste www.flickr.com/photos/urbexplo/4348359636 Il avait aussi entrepris la construction d'une des premières villa monumentales sur le flanc Sud du mont Royal, www.flickr.com/photos/urbexplo/8092891543 un véritable manoir, qu'il n'a jamais habité. |
