Summary[edit]

Description The approach embankments were stabilized to facilitate construction of the abutments and wingwalls as part of an FHWA, Highways for LIFE supported Utah DOT demonstration project to replace a bridge over an interstate during a weekend closure. Tiebacks were inserted ranging from 27 to 37 feet long in a grid system of 5 by 7 feet--a technique called soil nailing. After the tiebacks were inserted, shotcrete was applied to the entire exposed face of the approach (as seen here).
