Master of the Karlsruhe Passion (Hans Hirtz? Active in Strasbourg 1421-1463). Walnut wood. Pilate discusses with a scribe who probably gives him reasons why Christ has to die. The servant, who can be seen in the scourging with Pilate, kneels mockingly before Christ and presses a reed into his hand as a mocking scepter. A large fly sits on the henchman's shaved head, making him look repulsive. On the other hand, it is depicted life-size as if it were sitting on the picture surface - a sign of the artist's deceptive artistry. Deutsch: Meister der Karlsruher Passion
(Hans Hirtz? tätig in Straßburg 1421-1463). Nussbaumholz. Pilatus diskutiert mit einem Schriftgelehrten der ihm wohl Gründe aufzählt, warum Christus sterben muss. Der Knecht, in der Geißelung mit Pilatus zu sehen ist, kniet höhnend vor Christus und drückt ihm ein Schilfrohr als Spottzepter in die Hand. Auf dem kahl rasierten Kopf des Schergen sitzt eine große Fliege, die ihn abstoßend wirken lässt. Andererseits ist die lebensgroß abgebildet, als ob sie auf der Bildfläche säße - ein Zeichen für die augentäuschende Kunstfertigkeit des Künstlers. |
