Summary[edit]
DescriptionSpätgotik exhibition Nailing to the cross 9250.jpg |
Master of the Karlsruhe Passion (Hans Hirtz ?, active in Strasbourg 1421-1463). Crucifixion of Christ, around 1450, from the Karlsruhe Passion. Walnut wood. Here you can see the henchmen stretching Christ tightly onto the cross lying on the ground and nailing his hands and feet / Maria and her companions have to watch helplessly, while further back some high priests and dignitaries on horseback who are already present in the previous field of view monitor the event. The episode in its traditional form ends with the attachment of the cross, but it must at least have been followed by the crucifixion as the climax of the Passion. State Art Gallery Karlsruhe. Deutsch: Meister der Karlsruher Passion
(Hans Hirtz?, tätig in Straßburg 1421-1463). Kreuzanheftung Christi, um 1450, aus der Karlsruher Passion. Nussbaumholz. Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe. |
