Summary[edit]

Description
English: Copied from the sign:
Designed in 2010 by Thomas Heatherwick. Manufactured in 2016 by Magis, Torre di Mosto, Italy

Shaped like a spinning top, the Spun Chair is both a sculpture and a playful piece of ergonomic design. Awaer winning British designer Thomas Heatherwick was inspired by the traditional manufacturing process of metal spinning, in which flat sheets fo metal are spun and shaped againt a form to make objects such as Timpani drums and kettles.

This mass-produces plastic version was created in collaboration with the Italian furniture firm MAGIS, using a different rotational process, rotation molding. The ridges surface reinforces the rotational shape, suggesting the grooving in hand-thrown clay pots or vinyl records. The form invites the sitter to move and spin, have fun-sitting in no longer passive.
