| Description | These three buildings, two of which are currently vacant and abandoned, are located on St Michael Street in Cincinnati's Lower Price Hill neighborhood. Dating to the 19th Century, the middle, tall building has been empty for about a decade, and, from what I've seen on Google Earth, it seems to have major roof issues that should be immediately be addressed to prevent the loss of this building and the destruction of the aesthetics of the streetscape, which is at the edge of the neighborhood's core and home to The Sanctuary, a small events center, and shields the area from the large riverfront highway that was sliced through in the mid-20th Century. The small rowhouse next door is also vacant, and seems to be in much less need of urgent attention, but also needs renovation. The other building, a tall, thin walk-up type apartment building is missing one window on the third floor, but is overall in better shape, and home to several low-income individuals. The preservation of Lower Price Hill is vital to the health of the local community and is urgently needed in order to ensure that it has a brighter future ahead, as I expect it to get more attention once the ongoing revitalization effort in Over-the-Rhine and Pendleton gets to the edge of the neighborhood, as Lower Price Hill has similar aspects to its character and many similar historic buildings that will have the potential to make it an attractive, lower-cost alternative to those neighborhoods in the future. The stabilization of the currently deteriorating abandoned historic buildings will make sure that this potential remains in place, as it will have a big payoff in the future. |
