English: St. Alexis Hospital at 5163 Broadway Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States about 1918.
The first hospital building was erected in 1884. St. Alexis was only the second Catholic hospital in Cleveland. Construction on a 32-bed acute-care hospital began in 1885. The world's first human-to-human blood transfusion occurred at St. Alexis in 1906. The hospital closed on December 19, 2003 and razed in 2007. |
