Description

Stamp of Romania; 1968; commemorative stamp of the issue "Paintings of the National Galleries in Bucharest and Sibiu"; Meant is the town "Sibiu" (German: "Hermannstadt") in the region "Siebenbürgen" (German: "Nationalgalerie Bukarest" and "Brukenthalsche Gemäldesammlingen, Hermannstadt").; As stamp motive is depicted the painting "The awakening of the Romania" by the Romanian painter, muralist (German: "Wandmaler"), essayist and jounalist Georghe Tattarescu (1818-1894).; The "awakening scene" is an allusion to the 1848 revolutionary events in Romania.; The figure of the "Romania" has allegorical character and the depiction characterizes her re-birth (other title: "Romania's Renaissance").; She is synonymously to the "Germania" in Germany, to the "Helvetia" in Switzerland, to the "Italia turrita" in Italy, to the "Britannica" in Great Britain etc..; The depicted painting was created around of 1850 by Georghe Tattarescu in the style of the Neorenaissance; This painting was sent 1867 (together with other artworks of Tattarescu) to Paris to the "Universal Exhibition" (German: "Weltausstellung").; stamp postmarked by CTO
