Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Steady Geyser, Black Warrior Group (Firehole Lake Group), Lower Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Hotspot, northwestern Wyoming, USA in August 2011 (looking ~NE). This feature is reported to be the largest perpetual spouter anywhere. It is located on the margin of Black Warrior Lake. Steady Geyser has built up a mound composed of both geyserite (SiO2·nH2O) and travertine (CaCO3). The pinkish gray and dark red areas have been attributed to manganese oxide staining, but I suspect the coloring agents are principally iron oxides.
