Transcribed from photograph: "Boats. Fishing. Copy of print of Steam whaler. Mary D. Hume in the Arctic." The Mary D. Hume was built in 1881 at Gold Beach, Oregon. In 1889, the Pacific Steam Whaling Company purchased the boat for use in the Arctic and operated there until 1900. This drawing was published in the 1910 book ""The Frozen Northland"" by Winfield Scott Mason.; Copy photograph created by Williamson. Original photographer unknown. |
