Summary

[edit]
Description
English: BLM's first and only 18 hole disc golf course in Oregon/Washington is located in the West Eugene Wetlands. The course is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, and is free of charge! Concrete tee pads are placed at the starting point of each hole, with tee baskets placed at the final destination of each hole -- with at least two different baskets for each hole. There is an informational kiosk at hole number one with a map to orient visitors along this spectacular course. The course is appropriate for all ages and abilities, from the beginner to the advanced disc golf enthusiast.

Because not all seasons are created equally in the Eugene area and the course has been designed to be fully scalable to deal with inclement weather and the rainy season. Depending on the time of year and amount of rain, golfers can play 9, 12, or 18 holes!

The Stewart Pond area also has a with a gravel parking lot for vehicle parking at the end of Stewart Rd. Bike racks for cyclists are also located near the parking lot.

The Bureau of Land Management officially opened Stewart Pond Disc Golf Course in September 2016. After several years of planning and with hundreds of hours of donated volunteer time from the Eugene/Springfield community, the constructed course is now in place and ready for golfing. The course receives approximately 200 visits on the summer weekends and approximately 50 visitors per day during the week, based on feedback from volunteer club members and BLM staff observation.

BLM partners with a diverse number of groups for the maintenance and operation of the course who include: the Eugene Disc Golf Club, and the University of Oregon Disc Golf Club.

Future plans for the course include site appropriate plantings and restoration, invasive weed removal, graveled trail pathways to reduce erosion, directional signage, and interpretive messages added to tee boxes or other locations where a message regarding the importance of habitat restoration or other important educational messages may be shared.

In creating this close-in, community driven, affordable recreation opportunity the BLM endeavors to change the historical use pattern in the Stewart Pond area for the better and provide a safe, healthy recreation option for residents of Eugene/Springfield and the region as a whole!
