Description	Deutsch: Die Stromatoporen, wissenschaftlich Stromatoporoidea genannt, sind eine ausgestorbene Gruppe sessiler koloniebildender Meerestiere, die heute meist den Schwämmen zugeordnet wird. Ihre fossilen Überreste finden sich heute in Form der kalkigen Skelette ihrer Kolonien. Der Durchmesser einer einzelnen Kolonie liegt im Millimeterbereich bis zu maximal zwei Meter. Stromatoporen bildeten seit spätestens der Zeit des Silurs große Riffe, die heute noch als Gesteinsformationen anstehen. Ein Beispiel sind die Raukar auf der Insel Fårö bei Gotland.
