| Description | Although it is easy to spot this poisonous sulphur-yellow fungus clustered on wood, sometimes in dense tufts, it's variable appearance sometimes makes it difficult to identify. The yellow edged caps are more orange at the centre. Domed when young, they become funnel shaped and undulating when older. Also yellow and fibrous, the stem is darker at the base. It has a ring-zone which becomes brownish purple with fallen spores. The gills are garish yellow-green when young, becoming increasingly purplish black with age. The flesh of the Sulphur Tuft is very bitter and can cause severe stomach upsets. |
