Description

Sun-Mi Hong Quintet - Second Page: A self-strewn portrait

Haar passie voor drums leidde haar langs vele steile paden en kronkelwegen, maar uiteindelijk landde de Koreaanse drummer Sun-Mi Hong in Amsterdam. Van hieruit verovert ze nu Europa met haar uitnodigende muziek en haar uitdagende spel, dat vooruitstrevend klinkt en tegelijk geworteld is in de traditie.

Sun-Mi Hong beheerst de klanken en technieken van het traditionele jazzdrummen, maar slaat ook gerust nieuwe wegen in. Op haar album A Self-Strewn Portrait horen we pakkende melodieën naast impressionistische klankpatronen en ongebruikelijke maatsoorten, op een vrije manier uitgevoerd door internationale supertalenten die ze in Amsterdam en Nederland heeft leren kennen.
