Summary
[edit]DescriptionSunrise at Lake Owyhee, Oregon - Flickr - Bonnie Moreland (free images).jpg |
Owyhee Reservoir is a 53-mile-long lake, filling a narrow, deep canyon brimming with colorful volcanic rock formations. Many boaters return each year to explore the desert canyon and rugged mountains. Some of the geology is visible only by boat. Anglers are awarded excellent warm water catches, especially largemouth bass, white and black crappie. The reservoir also has catfish and is occasionally stocked with rainbow trout. The watershed of the river was part of region inhabited by the Shoshone and Bannock Native Americans. The name of the river is from the older spelling of “Hawaii." It was named for three Hawaiian trappers, in the employ of the North West Company, who were sent to explore the uncharted river. They failed to return to the rendezvous near the Boise River and were never seen again. Due to this the river and its region were named "Owyhee". There are two campgrounds close to each other and they have "rustic" cabins for rent. The wild flowers were bloom, when we arrived. Here you can see the balsamroot flowers lining the edge of the lake. |

The Public Domain Mark (PDM) is not a copyright license, but a symbol used to indicate that a work is in the public domain. When it is applied by the author or the copyright holder, community consensus has decided such works as being public domain in the US and countries where it is legally possible to release own work to the public domain. In the countries where this is not possible, the copyright status of the work remains undetermined.

If a file is tagged with Public Domain Mark by someone other than the author or the copyright holder, a more specific copyright tag such as one found at Commons:Copyright tags/General public domain must be applied. If this is your own work, please use {{Cc-zero}} instead.
