Summary[edit]

Description

c/n CBAF.1646. Built December 1941. Flew operationally with 611, 242, 222, 64 and 118 Squadrons. In November 1943 she became an instructional airframe with No2 School of Technical Training (SoTT) at RAF Cosford, then moving to Hednesford with No.6 SoTT. Withdrawn in 1948, she became a recruiting airframe until going on display at RAF Credenhill in 1955 as a gate guard. In 1967 she went to Henlow for use in taxiing scenes in the Battle of Britain film, which concluded late in 1968. In 1972 she joined the aircraft collection at RAF Colerne. Here she was restored and returned to genuine 222 Squadron markings with the codes 'ZD-F'. She moved to St Athan when Colerne closed in 1975 and then moved to the Manchester Air & Space Museum in 1982 and remained on display there until 1995. She was then taken to Rochester and completely rebuilt by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society, after which she went on display in the Main Hangars at Hendon. She is now on display in Hangar 1 as part of the “RAF First 100 Years” exhibition. RAF Museum London. Hendon, Greater London, UK
