Description
Magyar: Niklaus Riggenbach, az Internationale Gesellschaft für Bergbahnen nevű bázeli társaság nevében 1873-ban kérelmezte a Svábhegyre vezető fogaskerekű vasút építését. A vasútvonal építése az engedélyokirat 1873. július 3-án kelt kiadása után azonnal megkezdődött. A kivitelezési munkák irányítója a svájci származású, Cathry Szaléz Ferenc volt, aki a ma is álló villáját a vasút közelében építette. Az egy évig tartó vasútépítési munkák követően, mindössze öt évvel a világ első közforgalmú fogaskerekű vasútjának átadása után, az első szerelvény 1874. június 24-én, délután 4 órakor közlekedett.
