Summary[edit]

Description

A U.S. Navy Douglas TBD-1 Devastator (BuNo 0323) of torpedo squadron VT-6 in flight over the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6), 1938-1940. Note the squadron insignia, a Great White Albatross, on the fuselage beneath the cockpit. Established as VT-8S in 1937, the squadron was redesignated VT-6 that same year. Accepting delivery of its first TBD-1 aircraft in 1938, the squadron operated from Enterprise until August 1942. After losing ten of twelve TBDs during the Battle of Midway, VT-6 was reequipped with the Grumman TBF-1 Avenger.

The TBD-1 BuNo 0323 was lost on 11 March 1941 while in service with VT-3.
