Summary[edit]

Description

Spring Garden, Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Old Burying Ground is the former cemetery of St. Paul's Anglican Church, and is the oldest one in Halifax - its first burial dates back to 1749, one day after the arrival of the original convoy of colonists from Britain. Among the historic figures buried here are Major General Robert Ross, the British military commander responsible for the burning of Washington, D.C. during the War of 1812. The cemetery was decommissioned in 1843 and eventually fell into decline, but was taken over in the 1980s by the eponymous Old Burying Ground Foundation who have refurbished the site, have restored many of the old tombstones, and run seasonal interpretive tours (I was not on one of them when I took this photo, though).

Spring Garden, Halifax, Nueva Escocia.
