Summary
[edit]DescriptionTanggula Railway Station.jpg |
Under a dark, forboding sky, a little over 8 hours after leaving Lhasa, the train made a brief stop at Tang Gu La or Tanggula railway station, the last stop in Tibet (but without opening the carriage doors). This unstaffed station opened for service on July 1, 2006, and is located 5067 meters above sea level (according to this sign), surpassing Ticlio in Peru (at 4829 m) as the highest railway station in the world! The platform is 1,25 km long and have 3 rail tracks. The location of the station was specially chosen for the view from the platform. The border with the Chinese Quinghai province, the Tanggula Pass, where the railway reaches 5072 m (becoming the highest railway in the world), lies just a kilometer after this station. 唐古拉站 |
