Description
English: Theater in Viana do Castelo, Portugal
Português: o Teatro Sá de Miranda foi inaugurado no dia 29 de abril de 1885. Foi mandado edificar pela Companhia Fomentadora Vianense, grupo de personalidades vianenses, constituído em 1874, com o fim de, entre outros,” proceder à edificação de um theatro, que ficará sendo propriedade sua”.

Trata-se de um belo exemplar de raiz italiana, projetado por José Geraldo da Silva Sardinha, com plateia em forma de ferradura e três ordens de camarotes, com capacidade de 400 lugares. O pano de boca foi desenhado por Luigi Manini e pintado por Hercole Labertini, cenógrafos do Teatro S. Carlos, e o teto, com retratos de dramaturgos, foi pintado por João Baptista do Rio.

Em 1985 foi adquirido pelo Município de Viana do Castelo, tornando-se então Teatro Municipal Sá de Miranda. Numa primeira fase, a autarquia promoveu obras de beneficiação devido à acentuada degradação em que se encontrava o espaço concluídas em 2000.
