Description revers : Vue de la ville d’Augsbourg sous un ange ; une pomme de pin sur une colonne accosté du millésime 1641 contenu dans un fleuron .

Ferdinand III naquit à Graz le 13 juillet 1608. Il est le fils et successeur de l'empereur Ferdinand II et fut couronné roi de Bohême en 1625 et de Hongrie en 1627. Il devint empereur en 1637, après la mort de son père et continua la guerre de Trente ans qui l'opposa aux Français et aux Suédois. En 1648, il fut contraint de signer le traité de Westphalie qui eut pour principale conséquence la division religieuse de l'Allemagne et donc l'affaiblissement politique de l'empereur. De son vivant, il fit élire sont fils aîné, Ferdinand IV, comme roi des Romains. Ferdinand mourut en 1654 et ne fut jamais empereur. À Vienne, le 2 avril 1657, son père, Ferdinand III, le suivit dans la tombe.
