Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Alhambra Hotel, Main Street, Alhambra

Photograph of the exterior view of The Alhambra Hotel, Main Street, Alhambra, [s.d.]. The three-story wooden Victorian structure as a round tower which rises to a point directly of the corner entry. There is a balcony on both visible sides as well as a covered porch on the left side. A clock directly under a woman and child on the balcony at right reads "A.B. Staininger" (3:43). About ten people are standing in the street in front of the building or in the entryway. A horse-drawn carriage is pulling away at right. Legible signs include: "F.B. Elwood, druggist", "Republicans rally"..., "Public telephone [...]on".

Built 1886-87:

The boom years of the 1880s brought into existence one of the finest buildings ever built in Alhambra. The Alhambra Hotel, at the northwest corner of Garfield Avenue and Boabdil Street, was constructed in the winter of 1886-87 by a syndicate of investors headed by H. W. Stanton. The ornate, three-story wooden hotel contained fifty rooms on the second and third floors. A cupola at the fourth level offered an unobstructed view of Alhambra and the entire San Gabriel Valley. The bottom floor was dedicated to a spacious entryway, a large dining room, and offices--which included the Alhambra Post Office. --History of Alhambra - City of Alhambra
