Description
English: The Beatles Experience, Liverpool
(27) THE CASBAH 8 Haymen's Green, West Derby L12.
- A club that was situated in the basement of a 15 - room Victorian
  house that was owned by the Best family. Pete Best was the
  original drummer in the Beatles.
- The Casbah officially opened on the 29th August 1959.
  Membership was half a crown annually — to “keep out the rough
  elements”, with entrance on the door an additional one shilling.
  During the first year the club enrolled more than 1,000 members.
- After playing on the opening night, The Quarrymen became the
  resident band and went on to play the club many times. The club
  closed on the 24th June 1962, with The Beatles as the last group
  to perform.
- Sir Paul McCartney has said of The casbah: “The Casbah was
  the place where all that started. We helped paint it and stuff. We
  looked upon it as our personal club.”
- The club has now been reopened as a tourist attraction where
  visitors can see many of the original features including the murals
  painted by The Beatles.
