Summary

[edit]
Description

The Castro is the name of the theatre and the district of San Francisco.

The Castro Theatre was built in 1922 and is one of only a few remaining movie palaces in the USA dating from that period and is still in operation. It has an interesting history which can be viewed here: www.castrotheatre.com/history.html

The Castro district was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the United States and to this day the population of the area is predominately LGBT.

Special events, parade and street fairs are held in the Castro each year and always attract thousands. Events are covered on local TV, sometimes further.
