Optical Periscopic Imager for Comets (OPIC)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Comet Interceptor OPIC instrument, mounted on Probe B2, will face the comet before the closest approach. B2 will fly closer to the comet than Spacecraft A and face a harsher incoming flux of gas and dust; this requires OPIC and other instruments to be hidden behind a cylindrical dust shield. The image shows the geometry of the B2 flyby – pointing direction and rotation axis – and the OPIC field of view, or FOV (18.3°).
