Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Hunter (44163747881).jpg |
I took this photo at Andrew Hayden Park in Ottawa's west end. Unusually, during this visit this Great Blue Heron was hunting in one of the two small dug ponds, and not in his usual area along the banks of the Ottawa River. While I can't imagine that fish and other desirable food are plentiful in this dug lake, I did see him catch a [very] small fish, so clearly it's not all gloom and doom in this pond. “The Great Blue Heron Ardea herodias is the largest heron in Canada. Adults stand over 1 m high with their necks outstretched, and they weigh around 2.5 kg.” Source: Hinterland Who’s Who (web) |
