English: Bound for Northrup Grumman in Redondo Beach, Calif., the James Webb Space Telescope's critical backplane testing has been completed at Marshall. Here the backplane is being ferried by big rig to the Redstone Arsenal airfield for transport. The backplane has been at Marshall since late August for cryotesting in the center's X-ray & Cryogenic Test Facility. The backbone of the telescope, the backplane will support its 18 beryllium mirrors, instruments and other elements while the telescope is looking into deep space. |
