Description |
English: Satire on a rich old man procuring a young woman. The old man seated at a table, wearing in indoor cap and a loose robe, a crutch at his side indicating gout, is holding a purse in one hand and with the other clasping the wrist of an elaborately dressed young woman. She holds a handkerchief to her eyes as though weeping as she is presented to the old man by a procuress who looks down at the old man while pointing to the young woman's exposed breast. On the table is a volume of "The Art of Love", with a pair of pince-nez, and bottle of "Viper Wine" thought to re-vitalize the elderly; behind the table by the curtains of a bed(?) a monkey grasps a cat. On the wall is a painting of a biblical scene with the sacrifice of a lamb. In an oval frame in imitation of stone work. 15 October 1767

[edit]This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
