Illustration on page 1 shows intersection at 5th and Pine St. with the Wilkes Theatre at 5th and Pine. Frederick and Nelson appears in the background. The building in the foreground was a smaller retail space built in 1918 known as the Silverstone Building. Page 3 features portrait of Alex Luse and Jane Morgan of the Wilkes Stock Company. Wilkes Theatre was originally (1916) the Alhambra Theatre, then Wilkes Theatre. It only lasted until 1922 and the building became Best’s Apparel and later (1973-1998) Nordstrom. |
