Summary[edit]

Description

An engraving by E. Stodart after an 1878 marble sculpture titled Warrior and Wounded Youth by British artist William John Seward Webber (1842-1919). The warrior is Hercules, who is wearing his attribute of a lionskin cape (Nemean Lion) on his back. The back of the 1878 statuette can be seen here.

The statuette was commissioned from Webber by Harrogate artist Thomas Holroyd in 1878, bequeathed to Harrogate Corporation (Yorkshire, England) by Holroyd in 1904, but not retained by Harrogate Borough Council.
