| Description |
English: Therali (തെരളി), or sometimes called Vazhanayappam (വഴനയപ്പം), is a home cooked tea-time delicacy made with lady finger banana (rasakadali, njali poovan), grated coconut, rice flour, dry ginger powder, cumin seeds, and jaggery. The recipe is passed down through families, made at home, and rarely available in shops/hotels. Therali is dry on the outside, sweet and squishy on the inside. The ingredients are first mashed together, wrapped in Indian bay leaf and steamed in a pot. It can be considered a part of the true South Indian cuisine, exclusively made in the villages of Kerala. |
