Summary[edit]

Description
English: This is a photograph of a thurifer and boat girl in an Anglican cathedral. The thurifer is wearing a black cassock over which he wears a white surplice. The boat girl is wearing a white cotta which is like a surplice except that the sleeves and tunic are cut shorter.

The thurifer and boat girl in this photograph are standing at the west end of the cathedral prior to mass waiting for the dean. The thurifer has the lid of the thurible up high and is swinging the thurible left and right so that air will pass over the coals and keep them hot. He will do this until the celebrant comes forward. The celebrant can be a bishop, dean or priest.

When the celebrant is ready, he or she will approach the boat girl right before the service begins and take a spoonful of incense from her. The thurifer kneels for the bishop but not others while the incense is placed on the hot coals.

This is my photograph taken with my camera.

You are welcome to use it.
