Inventory number: 154 Object name: canoe (model) Culture: Toba Batak Place: Sumatera Utara (province) (origin) Description: Model of a wooden proa with ten rowers and four armed men (three with a gun and one with a lance). The stern is constructed in a ladder-like manner, with feather plumes and bowsprit. The stem and stern are decorated with carvings. At the bottom of the bowsprit hangs a line with twelve pointed planks. This used to be a war pirogue, but nowadays such a pirogue is used for trade. There is a place of honor for heads on the bow. De achtersteven is laddervormig opgebouwd, met veren pluimen en boegspriet. De voor- en achtersteven zijn met snijwerk versierd. Onder aan de boegspriet hangt een lijn met twaalf puntige plankjes. Vroeger was dit een oorlogsprauw, tegenwoordig wordt zo'n prauw voor de handel gebruikt. Op het voorschip is een ereplaats voor hoofden. Afmetingen : lengte: 242 cm |
