Summary
[edit]DescriptionTokat Hacı Behzad-ı Veli Camii 1770.jpg |
English: On the web I found, translated and abridged: A small square mosque near the Clock Tower (which should not be mistaken for its minaret). It was built by Hodja Behzat from Şirvan in H.942 M. 1536. His grave is on the Qibla side of the Mosque. The mosque was expanded by the people during the reign of Abdulhamid. When the walls and windows are examined carefully, it is seen that there are differences in the masonry and brick window arches between the part covered with the dome and the vault and covered part.
It must have been built for the first time with a single dome and the narthex covered with three domes, in accordance with the architectural understanding of the period. The first door of the mosque and its arch-shaped inscription with talik calligraphy were probably in the middle of the north wall where the dome sits. During the expansion, the north wall was demolished and transformed into a wide arch opening connecting the domed area and the vaulted area. The first inscription was moved to the very plain new door in the north of the vaulted area with baroque decorations. The minaret must have been added during this expansion. As it can be understood from the photographs taken in the 1950s, a new narthex was built by reusing the marble columns of the first narthex, but the top was arranged as a flat place and the extraordinary mahfil inside was expanded outwards in this area. It is written on the western wall that the mosque was partially destroyed due to the flood in 1908, and it was repaired by Ahmet Lütfi Pasha from Tokat.
