English: No. 2; a little boy carrying a slate with a broken corner with a book tucked under his arms, pressed against the wall of a building labelled 'A Day School', peering in to right at a less cautious companion who is hopping in front of the teacher's desk, while the master raises a birch and points up at the clock, punishing his tardiness.
